Reading strategies have changed several times over the years. Ask your child's teacher what reading strategies she is working on in the classroom and reinforce them at home.
Elementary students learn the intricacies of reading using various strategies that build upon each other: phonemic awareness (understanding phonics), phonics (letter sounds), fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, print concepts (understanding how print works), and writing. All of these strategies are simple to reinforce at home. Ask your child's teacher for suggestions or view the attached link.
